Delaware’s New School Choice Coalition Will Host a Public Forum to Discuss the Link Between the Violence in the City of Wilmington and Illiteracy
November 29, 2012
On Wednesday, December 12, Delaware’s New School Choice will host a forum to discuss the link between the violence in the City of Wilmington and illiteracy. Six panelists will discuss zero tolerance policies in the Delaware School system and the irreparable harm they continue to cause inner city youth.
The panel will also look at the viability of School Choice as it is enacted in other states as a means of giving parents a better alternative to the punitive Alternative Schools overseen by the State of Delaware. Comprehensive School Choice will provide parents the opportunity to enroll their children in one of the various private schools located in Delaware.
Panelist to Include:
Councilman Kevin Kelly, Councilman Jea Street, Community Activist Pastor Derrick Johnson, Youth Advocate Kirk Lacy, Career Counselor Ralph Simpson of Lincoln University, Cheryl “Sher” Valenzuela, 2012 Lt. Governor Candidate, Dr. Nikki Castle PH.D and James E. Hosley, Dir. of Center for Excellence in Education, Caesar Rodney Institute.
Delaware’s New School Choice Coalition seeks to ensure an honest debate about national school choice by providing accurate information on the impact of comprehensive school choice on families, communities, and schools. Its mission is to empower all parents with real school choice for their children’s education by changing public policy in Delaware to mirror healthy competition among all schools to meet or exceed students’ needs.
When: December 12, 2012, 6:30-8:30 PM Where: Woodlawn Library, 2020 W 9th St., Wilmington DE 19805
